Inscription

J. M. W. Turner RA, 1775 - 1851, painter, designed and lived in this house.
Greater London Council

Site: JMW Turner - TW12 (1 memorial)

TW12, Sandycoombe Road, 40, Sandycoombe Lodge

Turner bought the land, in the deep countryside in 1807. He designed the house and it was built by 1813, as Solus Lodge. This was his country retreat and a home for his father William (1745–1829). Turner lived here 1814 -1826 when he sold it. His friend Sir John Soane may have influenced the design.

This delightful little house is open to the public.
