Mother Kate Homes

Erection date: 1939

Inscription

The Mother Kate Homes, Ao Di 1939.

Site: Mother Kate Homes (1 memorial)

E2, Dunloe Street

The left hand edge of the plaque can just be seen in our photo, on the set-back wall towards the left.

The whole block is occupied by St Saviours Priory, an autonomous house of the Society of Saint Margaret. This is an order of women in the Anglican Church and they are involved in parish work which includes Mother Kate Homes for the elderly.

Our information comes from Hackney Planning Applications and they rightly describe the older buildings on the site as "an attractive mix of Italianate and Arts & Crafts."

The Listing informs that the Mother Kate Homes for the elderly were built in 1940 and designed by J Harold Gibbons (1878-1958). The first occupants were pensioners Blitzed from their home.
