Oarsman. Born William Nicoll Duthie Kinnear at Balmanno in the Parish of Marykirk, Kincardine, Scotland. He worked as a draper's assistant before moving to Debenhams in London. His colleagues introduced him to sculling and he joined the Kensington Rowing Club. After winning several trophies in Britain he took the gold medal in the single sculls event at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm. Died  at Leicester General Hospital.
