Mayor of St Pancras.

Andrew Behan has researched Morris: Thomas Richard Morris was born on 5 August 1908 and his birth was registered in Hackney, Middlesex. He was a son of Evan Morris and Hannah Mary Morris née Evans. His father was a Provisions Merchant and Dairyman and his mother died when he was 3 months old, on 22 November 1908. The family lived at 213 Well Street, Hackney and from 1930 to 1934 he was shown on the electoral register at this address.

In late 1934 he married Eileen Shakespeare and the 1938 electoral register shows them living at 117 Pemberton Road, London, N.4. Their daughter, Gillian Shakespeare Morris, was born in 1939 and the 1939 England and Wales Register informs that they were residing at 47 Birkenhead Street, London, W.C.1 and that his occupation was a Motor Lorry Driver. Telephone directories from 1952 to 1966 show his address as 53 Queen Alexandra Mansions, Hastings Street, London, W.C1.

Appointed as a Justice of the Peace, he also served as Mayor of the Metropolitan Borough of St Pancras for the year 1961-62. It was in 1962 that his daughter Gillian married William Rees-Mogg. Telephone directories from 1969 to 1976 show him to be living at 44 Fontwell Close, Rustington, Sussex and probate records state that this is where he died, aged 68 years, on 21 August 1976. His estate totalled £6,265.

In 1969 he became maternal grandfather to Jacob Rees-Mogg.
