Born as Lorenz Alma Tadema in Friesland, The Netherlands. Painter, famous for his depictions of classical themes. He settled in England in 1870 and was knighted in 1899. Died Kaiserhof Spa, Wiesbaden, Germany. Buried in St Paul’s Cathedral.
