Sarah Flower Adams

Categories: Music / songs, Poetry, Theatre

Actress, hymnwriter and poet. Born Sarah Fuller Flower in Old Harlow, Essex. She wrote the words to the hymn 'Nearer, my God, to Thee'. In 1837 she turned to acting, playing several leading roles, in spite of being affected by deafness. Among her poems is 'Vivia Perpetua' which looks to us more like a play. She was the second wife of Wlliam Bridges Adams.
