Dr Jimmy Mallon

Dr Jimmy Mallon

Economist and political activist. Born James Joseph Mallon in Chorlton, Manchester. He served an apprenticeship as a jeweller, and In 1903 joined the Independent Labour Party and the Fabian Society. During WW1 he was appointed as Commissioner for Industrial Unrest. Warden of Toynbee Hall, 1919 - 54. In 1939 he was made a Companion of Honour (CH).

We wonder if Mallon, or anyone else, ever noticed that he was born exactly, to the day, 10 years before Toynbee Hall opened.

It appears that he avoided the attentions of the camera his entire life.
