Soldier. Born Douglas Walter Belcher in Surbiton. He enlisted at the beginning of WW1 and fought at the second Battle of Ypres. Whilst in charge of a portion of breastwork (a temporary fortification), and under heavy bombardment he maintained his position, and opened fire on the enemy who were relatively nearby.
