Don Luigi Sturzo

Categories: Politics & Administration, Religion

Countries: Italy

Italian Catholic priest and prominent politician, one of the fathers of the Christian democratic platform. One of the founders of the Italian People's Party in 1919, but was forced into exile in 1924 with the rise of Italian fascism, and later the post-war Christian Democrats. In exile in London (and later New York) he published over 400 articles critical of fascism. Born and died Italy.

Was in London 1926 - 33, staying with his friends Barbara Barclay Carter and Cicely M. Marshall.

We came across "Luigi Sturzo a Londra: carteggi e documenti, 1925-1946" in which there are letters, 1945 and 1946, referring to the transfer of funds to Carter and Marshall.
