War dead, WW1 i

Commemorated on a memorial as having died in WW1.

He was an acting captain in the Durham Light Infantry, when on 3rd December 1917, Masnieres, France he was faced with a heavy bombardment. Although wounded he continued to encourage his men until the attack was driven off. The enemy attacked again shortly afterwards, but Lascelles jumped over the parapet of his trench and with 12 of his men drove 80 of the enemy back.

For his actions he was awarded the Victoria Cross. He was later killed in action at Fontaine-au-Bois.
