Arthur Leggatt

Arthur Leonard George Leggatt was born on 19 June 1935, the son of Arthur Edward Leggatt (1910-1967) and Lilian Leggatt née Charlton (1915-1955). His birth was registered in the Edmonton registration district.

Electoral registers in 1936 & 1937 show his parents listed at 116 Tottenham Lane, London, N8. The 1939 England and Wales Register show his parents at 33 Rathcoole Avenue, Hornsey and his father was described as a public works contractor's labourer.

On 7 June 1958 he married Rita Sylvia Smith (1926-2014) in the Wood Green registration district and they had three sons: Martin F. Leggatt (b.1963) and twins Paul G. Leggatt & David A. Leggatt (b.1964). Electoral registers in 1963 and 1964 show him and his wife listed at 7 Lombard Avenue, Ilford, Essex.

He served as Mayor of the London Borough of Redbridge in 2004-5 and electoral registers from 2003 to 2007 recorded him and his wife at 42 Beaminster Gardens, Ilford, IG6 2BW. He became a trustee of the Friends of the Hospital Chapel charity when it was formed on 8 October 2007 to conserve and maintain the Hospital Chapel of St Mary the Virgin and St Thomas of Canterbury, Ilford. From 5 December 2011 to 9 December 2013 he was a director of Beacon Multi-Academy Trust Limited, Beal High School, Woodford Bridge Road, Ilford, IG4 5LP.

He died, aged 83 years, on 3 July 2018 in Ilford, Essex.
