Commemorated on a memorial as having served in, and survived, WW1.

Soldier. Born Cyril Arthur Joseph Martin in Derby. He served with the Royal Garrison Artillery and then with the Corps of Royal Engineers Bomb Disposal Squad.

In Battersea on 17/18th January 1943, with two other men he extinguished a burning ammunition dump under heavy and continuous fire.

For his action, he was awarded the George Cross. 

Not to be confused with Cyril Gordon Martin (1891-1980) who was awarded the VC.
