Sir Joseph Rotblat

Born Warsaw. gained a doctorate in physics in 1939 and then came to the UK but could not get his wife out and she died in a concentration camp. In 1944 he joined the Manhatten Project to develop nuclear weapons. Subsequently he campaigned against them and won a Nobel Peace Prize jointly with the Pugwash conferences for this work in 1995. Died at the Royal Free Hospital in Camden.
