The Honble. Mrs Rashleigh

Categories: Benefactor

We were very pleased to find this miniature portrait of Mrs Rashleigh, even though the auction house selling it is rather circumspect with the identification of the sitter: "The present lot possibly portrays Mary Rashleigh (b.c.1823-1852), who married, in 1843, Jonathan Rashleigh, of Menabilly, Cornwall (1820-1905). Born Mary Pole Crichton-Stuart, she was the daughter of Sir William Stuart Crichton-Stuart and Henrietta Maria Sarah Pole."

We believe it was her politician father's 'Sir' which gave Mary the title 'Honourable' but we are not experts on this sort of thing.
