Plaque

BBC Tower

Erection date: 1977

Inscription

The world's first regular high definition television service was inaugurated here by the BBC, 2 November 1936.
Greater London Council

The BBC (who else?) have a good post about their time here. Pity this plaque had no room to mention John Logie Baird.

Site: BBC Tower & German civilian internees (2 memorials)

N22, South Terrace

The plaques are on the south face of the tower, either side of the entrance. Londonist reported that in the WW2 Blitz (while BBC radio was off air) this mast was used to baffle the German bombers - "it transmitted in the right frequency range to confuse the navigators".
