Tree for young people of BCS

Erection date: 21/2/1996

Inscription

This English Oak tree was planted by the young people of Boundary Community School (BCS), 21st February 1996.

This project was initiated by Shakul Islam, co-ordinator of BCS to raise awareness of the young community members, of the environment and its effects on our world.

BCS aim to focus on the tree's development in portraying educational activities, by encouraging young people to take responsibility for their own environment.

Funded by : Spitalfield {sic} Market Community Trust; Boundary Community School (BCS); Boundary One Stop Shop

None of the nearby trees are oaks so we have to assume that the tree planted in 1996 has sadly not survived, which is ironic given the text on the plaque. The plaque was not intended as a memorial but is now, it turns out, functioning as a memorial to the lost tree.

Following our researches - seems it's not just the tree that has failed to survive.

We did check - the men having the conversation were happy to stay put and add animation to our photograph.
