Gold Brothers

Categories: Craft / Design

The Gold brothers, Warren (1938 - 2015), David and Harold, started with market stalls in Petticoat Lane. They opened the first Lord John, a men's clothes boutique, in Carnaby Street on 13 February 1964. Warren seems to have taken the lead with Harold possibly not being much involved. The mod clothes appealed to the trendsetters including members of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Small Faces, and the Kinks. By the early 1970s there were 30 Lord John shops. By the mid-1980s the shops had been sold and become Next outlets.

The photo shows Warren Gold standing outside the shop in 1969. Our source for that photo has other photos showing the stunning all-over mural which the Golds commissioned in 1967.
