Composer. Born Edvard Hagerup Grieg in Bergen, Norway, of Scottish descent (the surname was originally Greig). He spent some years in Copenhagen and was encouraged by several young composers there. An accomplished pianist, he performed frequently in London. His best known works include his piano concerto in A minor and the incidental music for Henrik Ibsen's 'Peer Gynt'. Died in Bergen.
