Physicist. Born in Ulm. He was proficient in maths and physics from an early age. By the time he was in his twenties he was publishing papers and was recognised as a leading scientist. In 1905, he published his theory of relativity for which he is best known. In 1921 he was awarded the Nobel prize for physics.
When the nazi party came to power, he emigrated to the United States, attaining citizenship in 1940.
