Site: Churchill Gardens - opened (2 memorials)

SW1, Churchill Gardens Road, Chaucer House

A very unusual building faces this flank wall, on the other side of the street, just outside our photo. It's basically a huge hot water tank, like you may have in your house somewhere in a nice warm cupboard, but massive. This accumulator provides hot water to all the flats on this estate. Built at the same time as the estate, the Pimlico District Heating Undertaking is now managed by CityWest Homes and there you will find a link to a very interesting factsheet.

This estate boasts a Festival of Britain plaque.
