William Henry Morris

William Henry Morris

Active in 1956. Son of Anna and Samuel.

William Henry Morris was born on 24 December 1895 in Doncaster, Yorkshire, the elder son of Samuel Morris (1872-1950) and Anna Morris née Jacob-Furmansky (1872-1953). His father was a Wallpaper Dealer. The 1901 census shows him living at 118 St Sepulchre Gate, Doncaster, Yorkshire, with his parents and siblings, Ellen Morris (1897-1988) and Harry Morris (1900-1944), whilst the 1911 census confirms he was living at 47 Balby Road, Balby, Doncaster, with his parents and siblings which by now included Edna Morris (1903-1975).

On 21 January 1933 he embarked from London aboard the S.S. Highland Chieftain belonging to Royal Mail Lines Limited, bound for Buenos Aries, Argentina, accompanied by his mother. The ship's manifest gives his home address as 107 Crown Road, Glasgow, W.2. and his occupation as a Wallpaper Merchant, whilst his mother was shown as living at 17 Avenue Road, Doncaster.

On 15 May 1955 he is recorded as arriving in Southampton aboard the passenger-carrying banana boat the S.S. Golfito operated by Messrs Elders & Fyffes Lines Limited, from Kingston, Jamaica. The ship's manifest describes him as a Director and his address as 37-39 St Sepulchre Gate, Doncaster.

The 1966 London L-R Post Office telephone directory lists him at 50 Sussex Square, London, W.2. and according to probate records it was here that he died, aged 97, in the Penthouse on 25 October 1993. Probate was granted on 31 March 1994 and his effects totalled £1,463,240.
