Philippine de Gérin-Ricard was born on 4 October 1992 in Nimes, Gard, France. She was the sixth of the seven children of her parents, Pierre Christian Marie de Gérin-Ricard (b.1954) and Anne Boudet du Mochet (b.1958). 

The first 'Boris bike' fatality, she was killed in a collision with a lorry in the Friday evening rush-hour on 5 July 2013 while riding a Barclays hire bike (now Santander) on Cycleway 2. Aged 20 years, she was a student who, to improve her English, was doing work experience at Marks and Spencer.
