Commemorated on a memorial as having died in WW1.

Soldier. Born John Spencer Dunville in Marylebone. He was a second lieutenant in the 1st (Royal) Dragoons. Near Épehy, France, he was in charge of a party cutting enemy wire. He placed himself between another soldier and the enemy's fire, in order for the man to complete the work. Although severely wounded, he continued to direct his men until the operation was successfully completed. He died of his wounds the following day, and was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions.
