Andrew Behan has kindly provided this research: Charles Arthur Clutterbuck was born on 8 May 1908 in Millwall, the youngest of the nine children of Albert George Clutterbuck and Ellen Augusta Clutterbuck née Clay. His father was a crane driver for a timber merchant and later became a locomotive driver.
The family lived at 18 Havannah Street, Millwall and he was a rounds-man for a confectioner's company. He was also a Stretcher Bearer in the Air Raid Precautions service and died, aged 32 years, on 18 September 1940 when a high explosive bomb fell on Saunders Ness Road School, Isle of Dogs, London, E.14, that was being used as Auxiliary Fire Service Sub Station No.35U. He was buried in Square 28, Grave 10450 in the City of London Cemetery and Crematorium, Aldersbrook Rd, Manor Park, London, E12 5DQ.
On 9 December 1940 probate was granted to his father and his estate totalled £198-14s-10d. He is also commemorated in the Civilian War Dead Roll of Honour, located near St. George's Chapel in Westminster Abbey.
