Captain Robert Hansler

JP for Middlesex. At Rootschat we found a "Captain Robert Jacob Hansler, a magistrate for Middlesex" He was the eldest son of Sir John Jacob Hansler (1788 -1867) and Maria (d.1858), daughter of Mr Robert Headding of Cambridge. They had married in 1810. Robert married Marianne Collis.

Angela Cobbinah adds: The fountain "is dedicated to Sir John’s son, Captain Robert Hansler, wine merchant, magistrate and one time member of the Essex Rifles, who died that year aged 66." Sir John was physician Sir John Jacob who lived in Tavistock Square and was the first person to be knighted by Queen Victoria, for his services to the royal family. Robert and Marianne's early marital home had been in Woburn Place.

His death was reported in the London Gazette where we learn his recent addresses were: Codrington Villa, Central Hill, Upper Norwood and  33, Hova-villas, Hove, Brighton. He was formerly Captain in the Essex Rifles Militia and his widow was Marianne Sophia Hansler.

The MDFCTA informs "Another Hansler trough was erected to the east of St. Mary le Strand Church."  But it certainly is not there now, 2020.
