Leading Fireman of Poplar Fire Station who died fighting a fire aboard the petroleum gas tanker the M. V. Rudi M, at Limehouse Basin on 25 January 1980. 50 firemen had been called to the scene but, with the blaze out of control, they were being withdrawn, when the hold collapsed and Stephen was lost. Stephen was from East Ham.
