Corporal Ernest Fulford. Born in 1890, the son of John Philip and Isabelle Ann Fulford. His father was an Upholsterer. He was baptised on the 30th July 1890 at St Marks Church, Tollington Park, Islington, London and the family were living at 103 Corbyn Street, Islington. By 1901 the family had moved to 321 Hornsey Road, Upper Holloway, Islington. His mother died in 1895 and his father remarried in 1907. In October 1909 he was appointed as a Postman in the London Postal Region (North) and by April 1911 the family had moved to 44 Landseer Road, Upper Holloway. In September 1911 he was promoted to Postman in the London Western District Office. He joined the 8th Battalion London Regiment (Post Office Rifles), service number 2031. He entered France on the 18th March 1915 and upon being promoted to Corporal was given a new service number of 370429. He was Killed in Action on the 19th February 1917, aged 26 years, and is buried Enclosure No.4 Grave 1.C.6. in the Bedford House Cemetery, Ypres, West Flanders, Belgium. He was posthumously awarded the 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. Probate of his estate was granted on the 23rd July 1918 to his father, who by now had become a Grocer. Effects were £186.
