SW3, Cadogan Square, Stuart House, 84

'James I arrives in London' is to the left of our photo, 'Mary arrives in Scotland' is to the right.  Mary was, of course, James's mother.

This Queen Anne style house was designed in 1880 by architect F.G. Knight for Oscar Leslie Stephen, a director of the Great Northern Railway.  A large window on the north side both lighted a studio and advertised the artistic activities of the residents.

Why, one asks, are there scenes from the Stuart monarchy in Cadagon Square?  We found a website showing (one of the ways in which) Princess Diana was descended from Mary Queen of Scots and along the way it showed that a descendant of Mary, Charles the 2nd Duke of Richmond and Lennox, married Lady Sarah Cadogan, daughter of the 1st Earl Cadogan. Sometimes we find this ancestry stuff amongst the aristocracy just a wee bit tedious, but our guess is that the Cadogans are proud of their connection to Stuart line.

Anyway, Kremer's work is lovely.  We've only space for two close-up pictures and we can't find any others worth the link on the web.   Perhaps we should point Ornamental Passions in this direction.
