William Pitt (the Younger)

Born Hayes, Kent. Son of William Pitt the Elder. Tory. Entered parliament in 1781, became Chancellor of the Exchequer and then, aged 24, Prime Minister: 1783-1801 and again: 1804-6.

Reputed to drink more than three bottles of port a day. Fought a duel with George Tierney (over a political matter) on Putney Heath on 27 May 1798. No one was hurt. Died Bowling Green House, Putney Heath. Buried Westminster Abbey.
