Andrew Behan has kindly carried out some research on this man:
Private William George Field.   Born about 1883 the son of George and Mary Field, he was baptised on the 3rd July 1885 at St Luke’s Church, Peckham, London, together with his brother John Thomas Field. The family were living at 73 Tilson Road, Peckham and his father was a Labourer. On the 7th October 1913 he married Emily Letitia Gildersleve, at St Luke’s Parish Church, Camberwell and was at this time a Postman living at 40 Graylands Road, Peckham. In March 1914 he was appointed as Postman at the London Western District Office. He joined the 1st Battalion East Lancashire Regiment, service number 8030, and entered France on the 20th August 1914. He died of his wounds on the 22nd August 1914, aged 31 years and is buried in Grave 2, Neuilly-St Front Communal Cemetery, Asine, Picardy, France. He was posthumously awarded the 1914 Star and Clasp, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal which were sent to his father at 230 Southampton Street, Camberwell, S.E.5.
