Thomas Casey was born on 29 April 1942, in the Bridgewater, Somerset, registration district. He was the son of William Casey (1911-1993) and Annie Maria Casey née Stow (1912-1997).

In 1972 he married Margaret Buck (1948-2015) in the Newham registration district and they had four children, including Sarah Margaret Casey (b.1973) and David Geoffrey O. Casey (b.1981).

He was killed, aged 49 years, on 10 April 1992, as a result of an IRA bomb explosion at the Baltic Exchange, St Mary Axe, London, where he was the doorman stationed at the front entrance of the building. He was covering a shift for a colleague who was on holiday and would otherwise have been stationed at the rear of the building.

Probate records state that he died on 11 April 1992 giving his home address as 8 St Marys, Barking, IG11 7SN and when administration of his estate was granted on 23 September 1992 his effects did not exceed £125,000.
