John Ruskin

Categories: Art, Literature, Poetry

Author, poet, artist and art critic. Born at 54 Hunter Street, Brunswick Square. His first prose work was published in 1834 when he was only 15. He was a friend of Turner and became his executor. It is believed that he subsequently destroyed some of Turner's works because of their 'pornographic' nature. His theories influenced the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Admirer and long-term friend of Kate Greenaway. Died at Brantwood, Cumbria.
