Pioneer of child psychoanalysis. Born Vienna, the sixth and last child of Sigmund. Was on holiday in England in 1914 when war was declared and she had to return home. After nursing her father in his last months she continued to live in Maresfield Gardens, with her mother. There she continued working with her long-term partner, Dorothy Burlingham.
