Bust

Duke of Cumberland

Erection date: 1892

When this pub was built in 1892 the Duke of Cumberland was Ernest Augustus, the 3rd Duke, who while crown prince of Hanover was also a lieutenant general in the British Army. We could find no image of him that justifies the handsome and romantic (guano-splattered) bust on the pub. Another candidate would be William Duke of Cumberland.
